More on Dr.Claudia Henschke

This story just keeps getting worse and worse. Dr. Claudia Henschke, author of the controversial study pushing the use of CT scans to screen for lung cancer, also receives royalties from GE, a manufacturer of CT scan machines. A correction from the New England Journal of Medicine (published April 2, 2008) made the connection between General Electric and Henschke more evident (GE was also mentioned at the end of the original article but the editors of NEJM deemed it fit to issue the correction — probably due to the controversy regarding the funding disclosure).

So you’re doing a study that will try to prove that routine CT scans can catch lung cancer early and improve prognosis, but you’re getting paid by a company that will greatly benefit should this study arrive at the expected conclusions?
